Card Cheating Devices

Card cheating devices are gadgets that look like smartphones but contain software and hardware designed to read markings on cards using a hidden camera. It can then analyze patterns to give information about a card’s suit or value, which helps the cheater determine the best course of play. This type of cheating is common, but it can also be very easy to detect, particularly when it’s done by a skilled card cheat with the help of a device. There are a number of ways to cheat in card games. These include counting cards, hand-mucking, and bottom dealing. These techniques rely on nerves and not dexterity.

Card markers are the most popular way to cheat at cards. These kits allow the crook to apply subtle marks on the cards that only appear with a specific lens, and they give the crook the ability to keep a running count of high cards and low cards without seeing the front of the card. Historically, card marker was applied using daub cup, which was pinned to crooks’ shirt sleeves.

Card cheats who are more sophisticated will often perform false shuffles or false cuts in order to maintain order within a special deck of cards (also known as the “cold-deck”). They may also move cards to advantageous positions within the deck. For example, they might move an Ace of Spades from the top to the fifth position. This is particularly useful when playing Blackjack.
